ID Theft is America's Fastest Growing Crime surpassing Drug Trafficking; 15 million people were a victim of identity theft in 2006 with the average time spent recovering from the crime ranging from 300 to 600 hours. Most victims liken the emotional impact to violent crime. Auto Dealers are considered “lending institutions” and are now required by federal rule to be Red Flag compliant and must have an Identity Theft Prevention (ITP) program.
